Once again, BMW has come through with its impressive concept car submissions during the Pebble Beach Concours D’Elegance. This isn’t at all surprising since past events have seen similar accomplishments from the renowned car maker. This time around, we have an incredible new design that might just revolutionize driving. It’s called the M4 GTS.
While it is still just a concept car, this particular M4 is sure to get the saliva of certain people flowing once they find out what it can do. This is because, as opposed to the standard M4 which is certainly impressive in its own right what with it essentially being a racing car being unleashed on the streets, the M4 GTS will come with a water-injection system. This is one of the most notable enhancements for its performance that the concept promises since it allows the twin-turbocharged, 3.0L, straight-six monster of an engine to perform even better. Other feature enhancements include a plastic hood that’s reinforced by carbon fiber, new LED taillights, a front splitter that is adjustable, a rear spoiler that’s on the large side and finally, a newly reworked chassis. As you can see, it’s certainly something to look forward to.
Frank van Meel, president of BMW’s M division said, “While the M4 embodies the ideal combination of motorsport genes and unrestricted everyday usability, the Concept M4 GTS previews an exclusive new model with a keen focus on the race track. Despite its outstanding track ability, it is still fully road legal.”
There hasn’t been any official output yet, so measurements are still mostly guesswork at the moment. However, the concept behind this particular M4 is that the water-injection system will cool the air that enters the engine. As a result, power can potentially increased by as much as 8 percent. This affects both horsepower and torque too.
More than that, engine knock will also be affected which will result in allowing the M4 to have higher boost pressure during earlier fuel injection. This water-injection system won’t be alone in the cooling aspect though as two radiators and an added electric water pump to the intercooler will also make sure that things are kept on a chill temperature.
Just to make the M4 GTS concept even more appealing, it will also come with an upgraded suspension, 19-in front wheels and 20-in rear wheels, both of which will be cozy under Michelin Sport Cup 2 tire wrappings.
